Cutting Down The Angle

Cutting Down The Angle

A goaltending technique used by goaltenders to reduce the available shooting angle for an opposing player who is about to take a shot on goal. The primary goal of this technique is to make it more challenging for the shooter to find open space in the net and increase the chances of making a save. o cut down the angle, the goaltender moves out of the crease (the area in front of the net) and positions themselves aggressively to face the shooter. The goaltender tries to square up to the shooter, meaning they position themselves directly in line with the puck and the shooter.
